2017年6月英语六级翻译练习题(一)：孙武
孙武是春秋末期(the late Spring and Autumn Period)杰出的军事家(strategist)。他所著的《孙子兵法》 (Sun Zi's Art of War)是中国古代最著名的兵书，也是世界上现存最早的兵书。《孙子兵法》现存13篇，共 6000字。在这不长的篇幅中，孙武全面论述了自己对战争的看法，提出了诸如知彼知己、集中优势兵力打败敌人等许多作战思想。《孙子兵法》已被译为多种文字，在世界上也享有很高的声誉。

His work, Sun Zi's Art ofWar, was the most famous work of military sciencein ancient China, also the earliest one existing in theworld. Sun Zi's Art of War consists of 13 characters.In this limited space, Sun Wu elaborated his wide-ranging views on war. 1.在第2句中，两个并列的谓语部分较长，因此定语“他所著的”不宜再后置，而采用“减词”译法把“所著”省略，用hiswork也能表达原意。翻译“是……，也是……”结构时，可以承前省略第2个系动词be，将 “也是......”的内容作为同位语，使句子更简洁明了。
2.第2句中的“世界上现存最早的兵书”用了两个定语“世界上现存的”和“最早的”，英语表达中习惯将表动作的定语后置，故将“世界上现存的”表达为existing in the world作后置定语。
3.第3句中的“《孙子兵法》现存13篇，共6000字”这个句子中，如果逐字对译“现存13篇”为exist 13chapters，用英文语义不通，而应意译为consists of 13 chapters。同时用现在分词短语amounting to6,000 Chinese characters作伴随状语来补充说明，表达更为紧凑。
4.最后一句中的“在世界上享有很高的声誉”中的状语“在世界上”可转换成形容词international，使行文更流畅。“享有”译为enjoy表现出了英语的韵味。

少林功夫(Shaolin Kungfu) 是河南登封少林寺信奉佛教文化的和尚们练习的一种武术(martial arts)。少林寺，建于北魏(the Northern Wei Dynasty)太和(Taihe Period) 十九年，是少林功夫发展的文化空间。少林功夫最初是佛教僧侣练习的，他们的职责是保护寺庙。现在经过1500 多年的发展，少林功夫已逐步发展成为一种完美技术和丰富含义相融合的艺术，在全世界享有声誉。

中囯政府宣布每年的8月8日为“全民健身日”(National Fitness Day)，推动全民健身。这一举动不仅在全国范围内普及了健康理念，还使人们锻炼的方式更加多样化。每天早晨，喜欢户外运动的老年人会聚集(congregate)在公园里锻炼身体，如打太极拳(tai chi)、跳彩带舞(ribbon dancing)等。公园里那些低冲击力的公共健身器材和新鲜的空气十分适合他们。相反，年轻人则发起了一股室内健身热潮。比起户外活动，他们更喜欢选择华丽的健身房。在他们看来，健身房既时尚又充满动感。
